While the world wants to believe that there are equal opportunities for both men and women to be entrepreneurs, most women would know that is not the case. While it is no longer impossible, and the world is more open to the concept now more than ever, there are still challenges to female entrepreneurship.
As a nonprofit organization in Atlanta, Georgia dedicated to empowering women into pursuing their entrepreneur dreams, here are some challenges we’ve come across in women starting businesses:
Some people see women as overly emotional or whiny, while others see them only as a mission to prove something.
- Lack of acknowledgment
Women tend to be overlooked as a “we” instead of an “I”.
- Difficulty raising capital
Women-owned businesses are still considered “unconventional” by many banks and investors.
- Life balance
Many women have to balance being wives, mothers, daughters, friends, sisters, etc., along with managing their business.
As a mentorship program in Georgia, we at Agirlsfrontier.org aim to encourage the entrepreneurship spirit in women. It may be challenging, but it is not impossible. We prepare them for what challenges they may expect and the benefits they can take advantage of.
We also work on funding education to empower women with a higher education that will help them reach their aspirations.
